Continuing with my exploration of ‘natural abstraction’, through the use of experimental drawing techniques, I’ve added another layer to this process, with BSides.
The use of still life is still my starting point.
I then use one of many experimental drawing techniques, attaching restraints to my body, attaching my pencil, charcoal, brush, to sticks, drills, spades etc, having people manipulate my body or restrain me while I draw. This process is the first pass of ‘natural abstraction’ which I then loosely paint.
This painting is the A-Side.
I then turn the canvas over.
The soft, faded, stained areas of paint that have bled through the canvas to the other side, create another level of ‘natural abstraction’, which is then used as the new starting point for the finished abstracted painting.
These are the BSides.
